British Olympic Award for James Millar
The British Judo Association has awarded Edinburgh Club player James Millar the 2008 Olympic Athlete of the Year trophy.
The Award is voted for by the BJA Board and is presented to the athlete they feel has produced the most outstanding performances throughout the year.
James narrowly missed out on a place in the Beijing Olympic team having enjoyed great success in the run up to the Games. His achievements included winning bronze at the Prague World Cup, gold at the Tbilis World Cup and silver at the Rotterdam Super World Cup which placed him 4th in the rankings at the end of the qualification period.
Unforuntaely for James only one player per weight category could be selected for Team GB and as Craig Fallon finished higher in the ranking table James missed out!!
Despite this disappointment James continued to put in impressive performances at the Senior German Open, winning bronze, and at the Norwegian World Cup where he took home a silver medal.
Congratulations to James, this award is very much deserved this year.
This is the second year an Edinburgh Club player has received this award, Euan Burton was chosen as the recipient in 2007.
ps for those kids out there who think James looks familiar, he is Junior Coach Davids' big brother!!
